Email Marketing - The Address Book - Email Lists |
|
1. The 'Test' Address Book
This is there to let you keep a dedicated list of colleagues and personal email addresses. You can then send your campaign to these people for testing purposes prior to distribution to your entire list. You are not charged for sending from this address book, as its purpose is to let you check your creative to ensure that there are no typing errors and that all your links work. However, tracking and unsubscribes do not work from this book - so don't use it to email people other than your testers: you'd be in a potentially expensive breach of the Digital Marketing Laws and the Data Protection Act. 2. Importing an Address Book This couldn't be easier - we've even provided a template to help you. Simply click on the "Download Example CSV" button found on the right hand side, just above the 'details' bar for the address book. There are two example columns in there already. The columns must be in the following order: Email Address Name Full Name Last Name Email Preference (HTML or Text) (Additional data can be added in columns F - O, please see tip 4) Uploading will remove all duplicates and incorrectly formatted email addresses - you get a report at the end of the process to tell you what these were. And addresses that have previously requested an 'unsubscribe' will not be uploaded, to protect you under the DPA. 3. Altering an entry You can change addressees' details easily from within wizemail. If your clients' details change, or you spot an error, you can easily make amendments within wizemail. Click on the address book where the individual's details are held, then either use the search button to find that person, or click the green "submit" button which will bring up a full list of everyone. Find the details of the person you need to alter and click on the edit pencil at the end. You can then change the details you require and click the green "submit" button. 4. Basic personalisation using the Address Book Emails can be simply tailored to each recipient. To personalise your emails you first need to add your clients' details into your spreadsheet before saving it as a CSV file and uploading it into wizemail (click on the upload button in the address book). Example: You wish to address each recipient by name. In column B of your spreadsheet (directly after the email address), you would include the name of each customer. Your newsletter would then begin: Dear @name@ Welcome to our latest newsletter! 5. Advanced creation of targeted Address Books You can create quite complex personalisation if your needs require it. You'll first need to include all the data you need to refer to in your spreadsheet of email addresses, then import it into the system. Simply follow the Importing an Address Book instructions, then use column F and onwards to enter the additional data fields. Upload the book as normal into wizemail. Once the upload has finished, click on the "Properties" button. Here you will need to label the data fields so that you can use this data to personalise your emails. For each additional data field give the "Customise Data" field a relevant name. Then fill in the "Default Value" - this is what the recipient will see if you do not have that data for that particular individual (for example, if you do not have every customer's full name, you might want to default to 'Dear Customer' for the unknowns). Example: You sell computer peripherals and hardware and you want to target everyone who has bought a printer, to sell them ink cartridges and paper. In column F you put in the details of what they have bought, column G contains the details of the matching printer cartridges for that printer and column H contains details of paper. Your email might then be created with the following personalisation: Dear @first name@ As someone who recently bought a @printer@ from us, we'd like to tell you that we currently have @cartridges@ on special - buy one get one free! We also have @paper@ available on offer - buy one ream and get the second half price… Your email will then appear like this: Dear John As someone who recently bought a Lexmark 1270 from us, we'd like to tell you that we currently have Twin Pack #16, #26 Black and Color Print Cartridges on special - buy one get one free! We also have 80gsm economy paper available on offer - buy one ream and get the second half price… |
